Meet the Artist
Chris Stubbs has worked with his hands his whole life. He started roofing at 18 and spent the next 45 years moving through every kind of carpentry. He is a commercial carpenter today.
About 18 months ago he had some leftover countertop and an idea: carve something for his granddaughter, who loved unicorns and mermaids. Those first pieces became holiday gifts, and the gifts became Cosmic Cat Creative.
The Process
Every piece starts as an image he finds or creates, sized to fit the stone. He transfers the design with tracing paper, held in place by a mix of his own invention, cuts the silhouette with a scroll saw, and carves the details with a router. Then he brings it to life with acrylic paint and adds a hanger, so each wall sculpture arrives ready to hang. It is slow work. That is the part he loves.
